Jose Martinez Named 2005 Employee of the Year
By Christine Walker, ED
After much deliberation, residents, staff and families voted, and named Jose Martinez Employee of the Year for 2005. One of 12 candidates eligible to win, he was recognized as an Above and Beyond winner last June.
With Kindred since 2001, Jose transferred from a Kindred hospital to Kachina Point in July 2004. A highly skilled CNA and an important part of our Restorative Nursing Program, Jose is always professional and receives rave reviews from his peers, his supervisors and most important, the patients he serves.
Although he consistently goes Above and Beyond in his daily work, he never appears hurried or harried. His approach gives confidence to even the most nervous patient. People describe him as "a team player," "awesome," "always looking out for our residents," and "always there when you need him."
In addition to doing an exceptional job at work, Jose loves to brag on his family. His wife and daughter Sally are his pride and joy.
We are very proud to acknowledge Jose as our Employee of the Year for 2005.

Therapists from Kachina Point Healthcare and Rehab Center helped to fight Multiple Sclerosis, a devastating disease of the central nervous system, by raising money and biking across Arizona for 175 miles over 2 days.
The Kachina team raised over $2,000 dollars and pedaled with nearly 1000 cyclists to help the MS Arizona Chapter raise over $600,000 toward research for a cure and family education programs.
"The cause of MS is still a mystery, and the cure is unknown," Eric said. "This is why we ride."
Kachina Point Health Care and Rehabilitation Center’s efforts are now receiving national recognition. Kachina Point is a 2004 recipient of the American Health Care Association’s Quality Award.
There are 16,000 nursing homes in the country. Kachina Point is one of 108 long-term care facilities in 36 states and the only facility in Arizona that earned the Quality Award this year.
The AHCA Quality Award is designed to support continuous quality improvement efforts by promoting quality awareness and education and by recognizing quality achievements. Award recipients are chosen for making quality a priority in order to better serve their customers, their staff, and their communities.
The program also fosters networking among participating facilities by enabling them to share winning strategies and to communicate best practices. AHCA Quality Award applicants are evaluated based on criteria adopted from the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award.
A ceremony for award recipients was conducted in October at the National AHCA Convention.
